Compositions are the foundation of musical development, with new commissions keeping the art alive.

The year 2027 marks both the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH); “Co-Creating 50 — HKCO X CASH” bears witness to their deep friendship and mutual bond.

To commemorate the past half-century’s achievements, this concert features masterpieces emblematic of their times, including winners of CASH Hall of Fame Awards, founding CASH director Doming Lam’s Insect World, founding CASH members Ng Tai Kong’s Chance Encounter, Law Wing Fai and Cheng Kok Kong’s Hope and selections from Chen Ning-chi’s musical Tales of the Walled City. The programme also features current CASH Chairman Chan Wing Wah’s Phoenix Nirvana, Kuan Nai-chung’s Bumper Harvest, Ng Cheuk-yin’s Tang Resonating and the popular anthem Below the Lion Rock by the legendary duo Joseph Koo and James Wong.

Under the baton of HKCO Artistic Director Yan Huichang, these compositions unfold into a symphonic celebration of the contemporary Chinese musical spirit. This is a tribute to 50 years of marvellous creativity. Along with The Hong Kong Children’s Choir, we attest to the boundless vitality of Hong Kong’s musical scene through the generations.
